Growing Grounds

Growing Grounds Farms - Megan Hall

One day I tapped the shoulder of a Land Conservancy employee who had stopped by our farm and steered him toward the native plants we were propagating. We soon realized it made perfect sense for two local non-profits to work together as we improve lives and land in SLO County.

Working with the Land Conservancy, clients in Growing Grounds Farm's horticultural therapy program get to visit a site, collect and propagate specimens, and plant seedlings. When our clients return to a site and see how their efforts restored the environment, something changes. They recognize that their efforts have value and they learn to have faith in their abilities and their potential.

The collaboration between the Land Conservancy and Transitions-Mental Health Association brings something special to clients with sometimes limited opportunities to contribute to their community. It also provides a great way for us to expand our knowledge and skills and fill in slower periods of seasonal income.

It's an honor to work with the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County. I'm proud of our relationship.
