One of my neighbors had called the Army Corps of Engineers over some confusion about creek erosion on my property. I didn't think I'd done anything wrong, but I still had to answer to the authorities. I didn't know what to do or where to get help. What a headache.
I attended a San Luis Obispo County Flood Control Advisory Committee meeting, hoping to find answers. Brian Stark from the Land Conservancy was there. He didn't hesitate to offer their help. What started as a major irritation has turned into an amazing experience.
I still can't believe all the Land Conservancy has done for me. Brian helped me navigate the federal regulation channels, negotiated a conservation easement, and secured funding for a large restoration project. They've realigned the creek, controlled erosion with native plants, made deeper fish pools, repaired fencing along the creek, and restored landscaping.
The people working for the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County are great. Every single one of them has been friendly and helpful. They are hard workers who understand land issues and believe in what they do. My family settled here in the late 1700s. There's a lot of local history associated with this land. I can't tell you how good it feels to have other people care about it as much as I do.
